Bush, the Elequoent Speaker...RE to "The Importance of Being Careful"

I first heard of this today on Keith Olberman's "Worst Person in the World" thing he does at the end of his show. The following is taken a recent blog by John Hinderaker.

The blog is titled "The Importance of Being Careful"

It reads as follows:

"Obama thinks he is a good talker, but he is often undisciplined when he speaks. He needs to understand that as President, his words will be scrutinized and will have impact whether he intends it or not. In this regard, President Bush is an excellent model; Obama should take a lesson from his example. Bush never gets sloppy when he is speaking publicly. He chooses his words with care and precision, which is why his style sometimes seems halting. In the eight years he has been President, it is remarkable how few gaffes or verbal blunders he has committed. If Obama doesn't raise his standards, he will exceed Bush's total before he is inaugurated."

John, I know I took this quote out of context and I even know you may have just been trying to make a valid point, but did you really have to say President Bush is an excellent model of public speaking?

Still not convinced?

There are videos that are 10 minutes long of this. I rest my case...

I must say that was very entertaining. At least I know he's still human :)

This post made me LOL so hard. As someone who thinks the ability to express your thoughts clearly and concisely is an excellent tool, I must say, Bush leaves something to be desired. And perhaps I should take the quote in context, but what initially captivated me about Obama was his ability to speak so well. Even though, I didn't ultimately end up voting for him, I still respect that he is an extremely educated and seemingly devoted individual. Fingers are crosses for a great term or two.

Looking forward to another post. Will you be covering Obama's policies or politics on a global scale? Political scandals past and/or present might be an interesting approach to take. How about what's going on with Putin, that man is treacherous.

Good beginning discussion, but I don't see much writing from you here. Can you go into more detail? Give us a lengthy discussion of this issue, espeically pointing out (as you started to) that Obama is quite well spoken and doesn't suffer Bushisms, contra to what Hinderaker suggests. We need more!

Good post. It's interesting to see a challenge from a neutral view. The videos were entertaining. I am interested to see what kind of clips and videos will be produced as Obama makes his speeches and we get to see who he truly is.

I believe what was meant by John Hinderaker was the choice of words when it comes to certain issues, such as foreign affairs. I remember Obama saying in one of the Debates that he would go into Pakistan with or without permission to get Osama. Then John corrected him by telling him, you don't announce that on national TV, and he was right. Obama is a very intelligent speaker, but sometimes it seems he lacks "street smarts". Bush isn't the most intelligent speaker, and gets toung-tied like most of us, but I feel he is more "street smart" with what he sais.
